Mo's Challenge #235

For a Girl's Birthday!

I'm hosting Mo's Challenge this week, and, since it's my birthday month, I chose this theme.
Of course, I'm not a girl any longer, but we won't talk about that!

I was thinking of our eleven year old granddaughter when I made this....she's just crazy about all those bright colors! She wants to paint the trim in her room an electric blue and the wall in an acid green! Yuck! I can't imagine living with that day after day!

Image: "Roxy" from Mo's Digital Pencil Too, Digital sentiment

Tools, Copcs, White gel pen, Cuttlebug with Vine die, SU! flower punch

Papers: SU! Teal, Orange, And Green, Neenah white, Digital DP

Mo's Challenge #234

Things With Wings!

Anja is our hostess for Mo's Challenge this time, and she's requested that we use an image with wings. Mo has so many wonderful fairies that this will be an easy one!

This little bee is adorable and so much fun to color! I used the 'Out of the Box' technique on this card. I just love the effect of having some of the image outside the frame. The ruffle was made with double ruffled gingham ribbon. I stuck a piece of tacky tape down the center of the back of the ribbon, then cut it down the middle to get this thin ruffle. Just remove the backing on the tape and adhere it along the back edge of the circle. I colored the little flowers with the same Copic marker I used on the flower he's holding.

Image: "Baby Fairy Bee" from Mo's Digital Pencil Too, Stamped sentiment from SU!

Tools: Copics, Spica pen, Cuttlebug with Nestibilities and Butterfly border, Nellie Snellen Embossing Leaf punch set, mounting tape, Tacky tape

Papers: SU! Groovy Guava, Neenah white, Digital gingham DP

Embellishments: Ruffled gingham ribbon, Flowers from WOC

Now it's your turn! Join us and enter your creation using one of Mo's adorable winged images for a chance to win a $5.00 gift certificate to Mo's shop!

Thanks for stopping by!

Mo's Challenge #232

It's All About the Girls!

For the next two weeks at Mo's Challenge Blogwe'd love to see cards and projects that are girly and feminine. We all know how easy that will be!

I've used this fun image from Mo's Digital Pencil Too called "Girly-Girl Candy"....very appropriate for this theme, I think!
This card started with the digital watermelon and plaid papers from my scraps and, of course, this sweet  image. I then colored her with Copic markers and white gel pen to coordinate with the DP, chose SU! card stock that went well and colored these cute watermelon slices from Meljens Designs to finish it off along with  grosgrain ribbon and tiny pearl cabochons.
I may add a small stamped sentiment in the lower corner above the pearls.

Please join us and let us see your wonderful girly creations! You may even win a $5.00 gift certificate from Mo's Digital Pencil Too!

Mo's Challenge #231

Summer Flowers

That's the theme for Mo's Challenge for the next two weeks. It was chosen by my DT sister, Nela.

I don't think there's any flower that says "SUMMER" like daisies. I just love them!

This was made as a retirement/goodbye card as we have several people leaving school this year. Some are retiring and some are moving on to other positions in other schools. They will all be missed! Next year it will be my turn. I figure age seventy is a good age to call it quits, don't you?

Images:  "Shucks" from Mo's Digital Pencil Too, Computer-generated sentiment

Tools: Copic Markers, White opaque marker, MS Branch, Fence, and Grass punches, Glue dots

Papers: SU! Curry, Poppy, Pumpkin, Garden Green , and Celery, Neenah white, Cosmo Cricket DP

Embellishments: Grosgrain ribbon, Daisies from WOC

Mo's Challenge # 230

New Beginnings!

That's the theme for Mo's Challenge for the next two weeks! There are so many new beginnings in our lives...new jobs, retirement, graduations, babies, marriages...the list goes on!

I'm often asked  for cards for baby showers, but this is the first time I've used an image that was so perfect for the occasion. Isn't this baby adorable?
I paper-pieced the outside of the umbrella then mimicked the polka dots on the inside using a Copic blender marker. The image and sentiment tag are popped up with mounting tape.

Images: "Baby Shower" from Mo's Digital Pencil Too, Digital sentiment

Tools: Copics, White gel pen, Cuttlebug with Oval dies and Embossing folder, Mounting tape

Paper: SU! Bashful Blue, Pacific Point, Neenah white

Mo's Challenge # 228

CAS
Clean and Simple

The theme of Mo's Challenge this week, chosen by our hostess, the talented Franz, is "Clean and Simple," so step away from those embellishments! Well, most of them anyway.  I find both extremes of card design difficult...a lot of stuff or too little always makes me nervous! I think this card is as close as I get to CAS.

Some time ago I decided to sit down at my machine and do a bunch of sewn backgrounds using assorted scraps of leftover DP. I had so much fun, but this is the very last of the lot. Time to do it all over again!

I made the bow following Jak Heath's Double Bow tutorial. It helped that the ribbon was wired!

Images: One of the five cute babies from "Diaper Crew" from Mo's Digital Pencil,
Stamped sentiment from SU!

Tools: Copics, White gel pen, Mounting tape, Black ink pad, Sewing machine

Papers: SU! Olive, Caribbean, Pirouette, Assorted DP (most from Basic Grey)

Embellishments: Satin ribbon

Paper-piecing with Digital Paper

People have asked how to use digital paper for piecing, so I thought I'd post a short
written tutorial on the technique.

I love using digital paper for paper-piecing because it can be re-sized....small for the image and
larger for the background. Also, if you use a black and white print, you can print it in any color of the rainbow!
It's really fairly easy. I won't go into the details of the program I use, but I'll tell you the general steps.

First, print out your image on card stock in the desired size. Next, print your DP on a light weight computer paper, shrinking it to the right scale for your image and making sure the printed piece will be big enough to cover the area that will be pieced. Place it back in the printer and print your image again on top of the printed paper. All that's left to do is to color the image, carefully cut out the parts of the DP you'll be using (scissors or a very sharp craft blade will do), then glue them in place!
I sometimes use my Copics to shade the DP so that it gives the folds more depth. Just choose a color a bit darker than the DP.
I love this technique, and I think you'll be hooked, too, when you give it a try! If you have any problems, just ask, and I'll try to help.

(PS: I used Jak Heath's Double Bow tutorial to make the bow)

Mo's Challenge #226

"K" is for......

....Kansas, of course! Mo's Challenge theme this week is for you to use something in your card or project that represents the letter "K", and I chose to use this sweet image from Mo's Digital Pencil.
It's Mo's version of Dorothy from The Wizzard of Oz by Frank Baum. The rest of the main characters are also available.

The yellow gingham DP is reminiscent of the yellow brick road that led her to the Emerald City.
Of course, it wouldn't be Kansas without sunflowers, would it?!

Inside: "There's No Place Like Home!"

Images: "Kansas" from Mo's Digital Pencil, Stamped sentiment from Hero Arts

Tools: Copics, White gel pen, MS Leaf punch, SU! three flower punch, Circle punches

Mo's Challenge #225

Lots of Embellishments!

Our hostess for Mo's Challenge this week is Amanda, who has asked that we use lots of embellishments on our cards and projects. This is one that's difficult for me...I am embellishment challenged for sure! I envy those who can pile on all sorts of do-dads and still have it look phenomenal! When I attempt it, the result looks as if my stash caught a stomach bug and tossed its cookies all over my work!

This card has a lot of embellishments...at least by my standards! A paint chip, rhinestones, pearls,
beads, glass leaves, die-cuts, punched elements, and a satin bow....and you can still see that sweet image!

Tools:  Copics, White gel pen, Cuttlebug with Memory Box vine die, Heart punches,

Papers: SU! Garden Green and Wild Wasabi, Neenah white, Gingham DP

Embellishments: Paint chip, Rhinestones, Pearl cabochons, Beads, Glass leaves, Satin ribbon

Turquoise and yellow is only one of my favored combos. I'd be hard-pressed to come up with just one, with so many beautiful colors to chose from!

I had so much fun making this card! This little girl was a joy to color, as are all of  Mo's wonderful images! I also enjoy doing the dot technique to highlight images, and love the fresh look of white daisies! These are so easy to create, too.

Add a Ribbon

So easy to do! Mo's Challenge this week is to add a ribbon, as requested by our talented hostess, Franz .
Most cards that I make have ribbon, so it's not really a challenge for me, and I'd bet it won't be for you, either!

This adorable image was used on a Valentine's Day card, but could certainly be used for other occasions. I love using strawberries on Valentines because they remind me of hearts.

Inside: " My love for you grows every day!"

Something New!

Hello! Anja, our hostess for this week, has a new Mo's Challenge for you...use something new! It could be a new image, technique, tool or what have you.

I've used an image that's new to me. I think it's the perfect image for a 'Thank You' card. The inside says, "Thanks for the lift!" I loved coloring the balloon and making the flowers to match the ones on the DP!
I sent this to my co-workers at school to thank them for the beautiful bouquet they sent while I was in the hospital recently.

Images: "Going Up" from Mo's Digital Pencil, Sentiment stamp from SU!

Tools: Copics, White gel pen, Sewing machine, Nellie Snellen and MS Punches for the flowers and tag, Dimensional dots, Mounting tape

Papers: SU! Black, Guava, Daffodil, Celery, and Turquoise CS, Neenah white

Mo's Challenge # 215

Anything Goes!

Happy New Year to all!
I'm back after a three week absence, and just in time for my favorite Mo's Challenge theme...no Challenge at all!
I've had some health issues that have kept me from crafting. I had an emergency appendectomy for a perforated appendix. It wasn't fun, but I'm healed now and feeling much better. It's good to be back to coloring and making cards again!

Isn't this little guy cute? With all the cold, snow, and ice recently I needed a little reminder of warmer times!

Tools: Copics, White gel pen, Memory Box die, Sewing machine

Papers: SU! Yellow and Blue CS, Basic Grey DP

Embellishments: Seashell charms

We had such a wonderful response for last week's 'Favorite Mo Card of 2013" Challenge, and we'd love to keep up the momentum! Please join us in Mo's Challenge with a creation using at least one of Mo's images for a chance to win a $5.00 gift certificate to Mo's Digital Pencil.

Hope to see your work!
